Thanks for all the feedback on the camshaft replacement. Suffice to say I am trying to cut corners due to budget constraints and the fact that the entire boat is getting old and in need of more work than I can do at the moment. I am replacing all gaskets, swapping a head, replacing water pump, etc. Hopefully I can get a fully remabuilt block in a couple of years.
I do hear you loud and clear that I need to get new lifters which I can cover. I called 3 local shops and none of them had them in stock. My Merc 140 engine serial number is 4650426 and I believe my OEM replacement part is 72638 ? LIFTER, HYDRAULIC - TAPPET. Is there anyway to cross reference this to an automotive part and would that be easier to find. Is that a bad idea?
Should I just call and eat the expidited freight charges.
