I am still testing the engine to solve a high voltage problem- output of 17 volts. I went in to buy a voltage regulator- even though this model doesn't normally have one and the mechanic only produced a rectifier. The same one that I have and works fine. Now I am back to testing...thinking that there still must be a problem.

I tested the resistance across the stator wires (yellow-red) and came up with 0.9-1.0. I am trying to interpret this since the Seloc manual states that the (yellow-red to yellow-red) test should be .5-.19. So am I right in thinking that the stator has too much resistance? If so, is a regulator still a good solution or do I need to replace the stator?

thanks.

just to add more info for diagnosing.

I found 26 volts AC coming out of the stator at about 1000 RPM.
7.6 Amps coming out of the rectifier.

thanks.

There is no specific regulator for this engine, you would have to build one or adapt another one for your purpose. It sounds like your stator is ok. A high resistance in the stator would not generate more voltage, it would however limit current, which yours does not seem to have aproblem with. These units are notorious for overcharging batteries because of this high voltage condition. To quote Clams Cannino sic"I run my running lites all the time to keep the voltage down". NOt a direct quote but something like that.
