merc 150 boggs down in gear

1976 1500 inline boggs down when i put it into gear, It idles fine, and will engage into gear but any attempts to plane almost kills the motor.<br />I just changed the internal wire harness, coil,plugs,new gas so far. the compression check is good there all between 130 & 135 Any ideas on what to try next thanks <br />Jay

I guess that was informative but without some form of backup. I have a 88' 200 hp V6 merc and I had a similar problem and after replacing the stator, switchboxes, trigger, plugs.....I finally cleaned the carbs and now show runs like a raped ape/.

Andy I hope that is it I bought a set of carbs off Ebay but they arrived with the linkage broken, there cleaned and ready to put on, do you think i can exchange the linkage from my old carbs to the new ones pretty easy?

Why not, just remove the cottar pins securing the old throttle linkage in place. And then put your old linkage on your new carbs.<br /><br />-andy

Thanks Andy I think i will give that a try tomorrow after work, another thing i want to try if firing it up and letting it warm up them touch the spark plugs to see if there all warm, maybe its only hitting on 5 instead of all six?

Two cheap investments for any 'do it yourselfer' are: 1.) a multimeter and 2.) A spark tester.<br />These are good for fast diagnosis of spark and all other electrical and ignition problems (except the switchboxes and coils).<br /><br />You might also want to get a Seloc manual for your engine and even merc. factory manual<br /><br />Good luck-<br />andy
