Does anybody know how to replace a prop shaft on a merc 150. I have already removed the prop and the large threaded ring. It looks like the next piece(the one that holds the seal) just pulls out but i do not wnat to start yanking on it and break it.?

The brg carrier just pulls out. Next would be the pinion nut and the driveshaft nut under the waterpump.

TMD

TMD is right, if you got the big notched ring off it just pulls out, that is if you're the HULK! Some times they are frozen in. Use a bottle jack resting on the propshaft with the nut on backwards to make a base and route some 1/8" aircraft cable around the 2 braces inside the carrier and up over the bottle jack end. Fasten w/ u-bolt cable clamps. Then carefully pump the jack and it will pop out. You don't have to pull the pinion nut for the prop shaft replacement, I think TMD was thinking "driveshaft" replacement.
Good Luck and "May the Merc be with you" (anyone who knows outboards would never wish a 'Force' be with anyone!)

Ok, Thanks. I will try it tomorrow. I guess i am going to order a new inner and outer seal and replace the bearing wile i have it apart. I am thinking running a bent shaft could have hurt the bearings.
