I purchased a 2001 trophy center console with a 2001 150 Mercury satltwater outboard about a year ago. For the most part, it runs great, but I would say every 5th or 6th time out fishing I'll be cruising at 25 to 30 mph and the engine basiclly dies. It doesn't shut down completely but I can only run just above idle. Funny thing is, next time I take it out, I run it at WOT with no problems. I'm pretty novice when it come to outboards, but I want to learn. Any ideas/suggestions on whats goin on. Right now it just seems like a crap shoot when I'm going out if it is going to run graet or give out on me. Almost sounds like a govener is kicking in when it happens, but I'm not pushing the rpm's that high. Any help would be great.

The lube alert modules on these engines are designed to drop the RPM's way down when an alarm condition is sensed. The module executes a self test when you first turn the key. A good module will fire off four beeps on a small horn/buzzer located in your control console. Are you getting those four beeps before turning over the engine?

Thanks for the help. I am not hearing any beeps when starting the engine. Now when your talking about a lube alert, are you talking about the lower unit gear lube or the oil injection or something totally different? I've noticed that when I warm the engine up for a good while I usually don't have the problem, but when I turn it on and get out on the water quickly I usually run into the problem.
Thanks again.
