Hi ThomasE12,<br /><br />XR-4 means that the engine uses the gearcase that is normally used on engines with less than 115 HP.<br /><br />This gearcase has a diameter of 3 1/2 inches compared to 4 1/2 inch gearcase used on the larger engines.<br /><br />I have not run the XR-4 engine and do not know of anyone who has one.<br /><br />These motors appear to be used mostly in lakes and rivers and I live near coastal waters, so I don't see them around here too often.<br /><br />Kenny
