merc 1500 new to boating

today i'm swapping out he whole lower half of this unit to a 20 inch shaft, so far so go pretty easy, the question i have is were is the water pump located? any tricks to replacing the impeller or gaskets? what to watch out for. Please, any help would be greatly appriciated!

I would definitely purchase a manual as it will clarify a lot of things and make life easier. The impeller is in a housing enclosed around the drive shaft and is accessible once you drop the lower unit. If the inside of the housing is in good shape, you can just replace the impeller itself and the manual will give detail as to imstallation and reconnection of the lower unit. <br />I have a '75 1500 and have enjoyed working on it. Good luck and post the results when you can..
