Re: Merc 160 removal
I don't see any power steering so this should be pretty straight forward. take the battery out of the boat.
Once the outdrive is removed (shifter in fwd), feel around with your hand back there and you'll discover how un-messy it is. Once that driveshaft slides out the back, the engine and the transom parts aren't connected aside from the two rear mounting bolts and exhaust riser rubber coupler.
Take those 2 bolts out and remove the exhaust rubber coupler (or take the riser off if necessary), disconnect the fuel line, disconnect battery cables to starter and block, unplug the wiring harness and remove the control cables from the carb and shift linkage - leave the cables in the hull and voila- a free engine.
As it is an older boat - look for any user-added wiring (e.g. bilge pump, oil pressure gauge, tach anything that looks added ncluding onto the starter terminals) as you are lifting and just keep checking that nothing is catching - you can keep wiggling and wobbling the engine by hand as you lift to make sure nothing is hooked or snagged.
