Just bought Merc 18xd, serial No.9414939, what fuel should I be using (leaded,unleaded, what octane rating?)and what year is it,I believe it is mid 1980's. There is a small problem with fuel starvation and I have found that the needle valve is sticking in the carb, is this the problem because if I pump the fuel bulb on the fuel line the engine then picks up and runs ok, but there isn't a fuel pump fitted, should it have one? Any other info on this engine would be grateful.
