Just got my Merc 220XRi running in the water this week. It seems to have fuel starvation issues which i have not yet looked into (wont rev past 3000rpm). I'll get to that later in another thread but my first question is on the temp gauge it warmed up came upto to about 1/4 on the temp scale but then at idle dropped back down to almost C. Is this normal or does it show that the thermostat is stuck open?

Just after some advice! :)

Thanks,

Ed

Probably just fine. Temp guages arn't known for being accurate. They are ok for getting an idea of the temp. Get yourself a water pressure guage and make sure tha warning buzzer is working.......

Ahh thanks. Yeah I don't think the buzzer is working so I need to look into that too. I'm going to rewire the dash etc with no gauges as its looking pretty old and rough.

What should the tell tail be like on one of these at idle from cold? Should it be rock solid like the older engines?
