I have a 1996 merc 225 that will jumped out of gear while at running speed. Was running for about 30 mins when I started to hear a thud.. sounded like I had a bumper over the side smacking the back of the boat. then the port motor stopped pulling and revved up like it was not in gear. I stopped and tried to put back in gear but would not engage. So putted back to the harbor on starboard motor. When back at the harbor I tried again and it did engage but is locked in forward. No reverse. I did not try it under load just in gear. Is the lower unit shot??? or just a adjustment somewhere? Please help
