I have a 200 Merc 1992. I don’t seam to be getting any charging. New batteries, cables clean. There are two regulators, one with the extra gray wire for the tach. Voltage across the pair of yellow wires going into each regulator varies from 14 volts AC at idle to 20 volts AC at higher RPMs. Resistance across the yellow wires are about .2 ohms at 75 degrees and open to groung. This seams to tell me the stator is OK. Battery voltage is 12.8 with the engine off and stays there with the engine running.
Is it the regulators?
Is there a way to bench test the regulators?
Why would both go out?
I recall when the engine was new they replaced these under warranty.
Could this also cause the engine to just die and then I can just start it up and it runs fine?

Thanks Brad

Three c, thanks for the reply. The test page you sent is for a simple rectifier. The regulator on this engine is a rectifier, voltage regulator, tach output and some type of charge over temp sealed in two pieces. Check page below and look for 194-8736. At $310 I sure would like to bench these things.

web page
