Hi there, just got my hands on a Mercury 200 for my 3.5m zodiac for ?120. Firstly i've tried to look everywhere on these forums to find answers to my questions before asking and my apoligies as I'm sure these are very tired questions! An opinion on whether this is a suitable motor would be great too, i'm hoping this isn't too overpowered for my rib also, was it a good price! Right then, questions
Its a Merc 200 and on the panel covering the casing catches its got 'Thunderbolt Ignition' on it. I've looked everywhere i can think of for a serial no. and looked where many comments here have said to, i cannot find a metal tab or anything or any number anywhere near the transom. The engine has 57576 stamped on a panel on the port side towards the rear. The rear of the engine has 1022-3567 stamped into it. Behind (and very hard to see) what i guess is the starter motor bracket on starboard rearish is 848-4667 and underneath this, 'Super Hurricane' these are the only numbers i can see! Oh and its twin cylinder, 2 stroke (obviously!)
Can anyone tell me anything about motor? perhaps where to find serial no. as i've tried all these no.'s against the charts (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=264123) and no match! It starts up great and seems to run very well with tell-tale good, although it has been sat up for 5 years. The deadmans switch is rubbish, making it cut out alot, is it ok just to put a flick switch in its place? Where can i get a reasonably priced manual for this or has anyone got one handy? pretty please!
Is it sensible/difficult to service these yourself? i'm reasonably handy with motors. And finally, One of the two rubber top mounts holding cowling in place is absolutely nackered, is it ok to use engine before this is replaced for a few hours this weekend or is this a no-no?
Well done for reading this far and i'll appreciate any help/guidance offered, sorry its such a long post! Many thanks, Tom aka Whizzykid
found a new number stamped at bottom and front of engine block behind carb etc... 9424686 this still doesn't seem to fit in anywhere thou!
