Does anyone have one of these or a good knowledge of them? I have an odd question regarding the carb. Was the carb on this engine a regular square bore Holley? I'm trying to upgrade my 302 with a square bore Holley 4160 from a Merc 255 inboard. I am trying to determine if the throttle bracket from the 225-S will fit my carb so I can have a stock linkage set-up.

Some places show this part as NLA and some say it is available.

A bit more info: The carb from the 225 is 4160 as well. that leaves me with the question of just what type of drive did a Mercruiser 225-2 use? Any reason the carb/throttle bracket wouldn't work with my 888?

My 225 /888 , 302 ford came with a 2bbl mercarb, so I'm assuming you switched manifolds, as i did.
I used an edelbrock carb and just bent the
bracket and it worked fine. I couldn't find a
marine 4160 w/ a choke.
good luck, Ed

Re: Merc 225-S -Ford 302

Thanks EdsCabs. I'm switching to an aluminum intake. I added the elec choke to my carb, but Holley told me it came with one from the factory, someone just removed it along the way. I didn''t figure the bracket would bend, so I ended up ordering one from the engine the carb came from hoping it will work. It should be here in a few days.

How well did your edelbrock perk up your 302? I also have to bend up a new fuel line.

Ever thought of going to the Holley throttle body injection? Holley has a kit out for the 888.

Thought about it, then saw the price

Actually, it's not that bad if you consider the price of a new Holley carb and manifold.

What price are you seeing Jason??? The last time I looked it was around 14-1500 smackers. And to really do it right you needed to be able to run an oxygen sensor. A short time ago Holley upgraded the system and the price went thru the roof. I'm wondering if you saw a price for the older model, about $800.00 I think.

There are several Holley marine carbs on Ebay right now. One of them is NOT a marine carb as can be seen by the straight overflow tubes.

The old price is the one I saw Boomyall. The carb I have was a $40 e-bay purchase. Needed cleaning/rebuild, and an electric choke. Have about $120 and a few hours in it.

A new Holley carb is $450-500 for a 600cfm and a nice Weiand Manifold (new) would fun $175 or so. That's what I was basing my comment on.

With a little tuning , I actually got better
fuel "economy"( now theres a word that you rarely
hear in the boating world). while crusing. top end improved, it was worth it.
I used a stock manifold, aluminum and rwc in salt
water don't mix.
Ed
