MERC 260 HP/TORQUE INCREASE ?

AM IN PROCESS OF REBUILDING 85 MERC 260. ANYBODY HAVE INFO ON BUDGET MINDED HP/TORQUE INCREASING IDEAS. POSSIBLE CAM PROFILE, INTAKE CHANGE. SHOULD I LEAVE IT ALONE AS MERC HAS ALREADY DONE GOOD ENGINEERING JOB. HAVE HEAVY BOAT, 23' FORMULA ANY INCREASE WOULD REALLY HELP. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP.<br /><br />BRIAN

If you happen to need a crank and pistons anyhow, Stroker Kit. I'd stay with a stock MerCruiser cam. They're pretty agressive already. Does that have a 2-barrel carb? Definlately go with a 4-barrel. The stock Mercruiser carbs and manifolds are pretty agressive, aluminum manifolds are nicer if salt isn't an issue (or if you moor it). Most of these parts are common as dirt. It shouldn't be hard to find these used.

Take a look at the Offenhauser Dual Port intake manifold on Ebay. Two single plane manifolds stacked on top of each other. Major increase in low through mid-range torque. Old car technology, great for boats. Do you operate in salt water?
