I have a merc 3.0 4cyl 140hp in my '87 four winns boat that is overheating at idle and WOT. It does not overheat at mid throttle but it does run hotter than norm. I understand the impeller may be the culprit for the idle overheating but could it also be the cause for the WOT overheat issue?
If I run at mid throttle the engine temp starts to drop. I had no over heating issues last year and the boat was properly winterized and stored indoors last winter.
I am thinking of getting a water pump rebuild kit, not just the impeller, and doing it myself. Any tips or words of advice would be appreciated.
