Hi All,

I have an 2003 3.0L and I'm having a problem with my throttle. When I go to take off the boat bogs down and stalls or it bogs down and then takes off. It also revs up then revs down in cycles in mid throttle. If I slow down fast the engine stalls. This happens when the engine is warm or cold and I know the fuel is good. The engine only has 80 hours on it.

Thanks

Accelerator pump.

Running lean.

Doesnt matter.

All things point to a needed carb overhaul.

Thanks guys,

Is a carb replacement / overhaul / rebuild difficult to do? Do you need any special tools? Can I do this with the boat in the water?

As long as you know what your doing rebuilding a carb is fairly easy to do. Doing it in the water what do you mean? Leaving the boat in the water and taking the carb off? You can do it with the boat in the water if you want, but it's much easier to rebuild the carb in a garage or something since there is small parts in there that you won't want to lose. When you get the carb kit they usually come with different gaskets for different models, and you will have the match the gaskets up. To rebuild the carb you have 3 main body parts that you will want to spray with a lot of carb cleaner, and use a tooth brush to clean it up really good. Make sure you use a air compressor to air spray out the carb to get all the loose material out of it. You will want to probably replace the float, and the small piece that connects to the float to stop fuel from flooding the carb. I can't remember right off the top of my head what that part is called. Put the gaskets on it and put her back together. Now with the linkage on the side of the carb you do want to make sure you put them back on there correctly, and make sure the screws or rivets whatever is holding those linkages on there don't get screwed up, mostly if one is riveted on there. If you screw it up you'll need to get a new carb. It is very simple to rebuild, just watch out for the small parts so you don't lose them, and make sure everything is put back into the correct place.

Thanks,

Yes, I meant take it apart with the boat in the water. It's at my dock and I can remove it and then go to my garage.
