I have a Merc 1989 3.0L Merc with Points
I am looking to give the ignition a bit of a make over and would like some input.
Here is what I am looking at:
PerTronix Ignitor II (high performance conversion kit, has a microprocessor that adjusts dwell though out RPMs)
Flamethrower II Coil
New Wires, Cap, Rotor, and Plugs
I am checking with PerTronix, but it sounds like they have a fix for the shift interrupt issue.
Anyone every install something similar? Results?
I have hear: better starts and efficiency
What about power? Could I gain a few HP's, maybe better performance? Quicker hole shot?
Any Problems?
Thanks In Advance

It's a good system - I have installed several.

What you will get is a more consistent system than points.

What you will not get is any performance improvement.

i installed a similar system in my points boat. i'm skeptical about performance gains v. a properly tuned points system; but you don't have to keep muckin' around with it every so often. i'm not aware of a SIS issue with the mercs--thought that was OMCs only.

thanks for the info, the SIS issue was brought to my attention by my local merc shop, turns out PerTronix says it is not an issue. They also say in a perfect points set up gains are min, but they do say, better starts, smoother idol, smoother acel, and the flame thrower II will give better performance at WOT ~4500rpm+
I just remember tuning cars, and with those improvements, car engines run stronger. I see no negitive here so I am moving forward with the mods, thanks for the help
Any last thoughts?
Sugggestion on where to hook up the switched 12 volt?

Bridge from the choke coil connection possibly?
