I just saw a very clean 1990 Bluewater Cuddy. It is powered by a 3.7 Merc i/o $6500. I would like to slalom ski a little but the boat would be used mostly for cruising and fishing. I am not familiar with this size motor at all and could used some help. Thanks!

Robert....

I wouldn't want any less power than that in a 19 footer but I'm a performance freak and like the get up and go that a V-8 provides. However, it's amazing the punch they are putting into these smaller units nowadays... I realize you are looking at a 1990 model but still...

If you get serious about this boat, as I'm sure you know, there are sooooooo many things you gotta watch out for. Dry rot...engine & outdrive condition...etc...etc... In some recent postings there has been some excellent advice on what to look for in a used boat. I suggest taking a minute and browsing through some of the more recent comments posted regarding purchasing a used boat. Hey, good luck to ya and enjoy! Walt

Thanks for your quick reply. I know the sign said it was a 3.7 Merc. I think it said it was a 4 cyl with 165 HP. Does that sound right?

Go back and read that sign again. Ill bet it says 5.7 . If so this power on that boat would be great.PLEASE heed previous advice and check this boat out completely before laying down.Pay some special attention to soft spots in the deck if a carpeted model.

It's basically a later version of the Merc 470, which is a good motor. That model was made from 1987-89. Later versions used a 4 barrel carb and cranked out 190hp.

------------------
I'm going to invent a TCW3/citronella oil blend and make a fortune!
