I just recieved a 2002 30HP 4-stroke from iboats. I have not cranked motor yet - getting ready for the first outting. I've run into two snags that I hope you can help me with. First, the gear lever seems to be stuck in forward (the way it camer) and will not shift into reverse, or neutral. I am not sure what's going on there.

The second problem is that I can't seem to turn the motor using the tiller handle. It simply does not move - is there some kind of lock or something I am missing?

Thanks for your help and let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,

James

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that's how I have been attempting to shift - still no luck. Any other ideas?

Turn the propshaft while you are shifting . It is possible you are against the dogs of the clutch. There is a steering friction adjustment somewhere on this engine.

Hondon - Thanks for the suggestion - that worked. Now I've just got work out the steering. I found the friction adjust but that hasn't helped.I'll keep looking and if any one has any more ideas...
