I'm pretty sure my forward control cable is worn out for my '88 mercury 35hp. When I click it into forward and start to increase the throttle, nothing really happens then it will suddenly jump to a high RPM requiring me to take it back down to the lower rpm I need. It doesn't do it every time, but it does happen.
No real tight bends in the cables anywhere.
I'm just not sure what needs adjusting when you replace the cable? The current cable might even need a little adjusting, sometimes when it's in neutral the prop will ratchet when it spins (by hand or if you're drifting in the water).
