I have a 1988 Larson Senza V220 with a Mercruiser 350 magnum and alpha one outdrive. It is equipped with a Rochester R4/4MV 4-barrel carburator. I have narrowed down the problem to a sticking choke. When I take the air filter off and manually actuate the choke it opens fine and there is so resistance but it springs back to closed, even if the engine is up to temperature. the boat starts fine and idles fine until I try to gradually plane over, it floods out. Once I apply full throttle, the choke opens fully and remains open until I turn off the engine again, even if I go slow/idle for a period of time.
I believe the problem is in one of the mechanisms that controls the opening of the choke according to the temperature. Unfortunately, Mercruiser no longer makes a Primary Vacuum Kit or a Link/Lever Kit for the carb. Does anyone know of an aftermarket solution that would be the proper fix? Could it just be as simple as putting any new flexible hose between the primary vacuum and carburator? the rest of the carburator works fine and so I would hate to drop another $500 on a new carb.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank You
