Merc 35hp water/exhaust leak

Just replaced impeller for water pump and now engine runs eratic, jumps to full power normal rough idle to lower power smoother idle with a water/exhaust leak (dribble) appearing near front left motor mount near bottom side of powerhead. Does that mean I have a cracked block or is it a gasket leak? Or what could it be and how can I check for cracked block or leak?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Fred

I had a similar problem on my 1986 Merc 35 after I replaced the impeller for the first time. Mine was leaking from the water jacket plate near the top spark plog. If your is leaking in a similar area you could try to re-torque the bolts. I just removed the plate and replaced the gasket and it was fine after that. Some of the folks on the board said it could also be the exhaust plate gasket as well.<br /><br />Scooch
