Make sure the cable is run without any undue sharp bends. You can lubricate it with a graphite spray lubricant and work it in. Lubricate the throttle lever mechanisms as well.

Thanks for the advice.
I called a few parts stores and told them that I was looking for 'graphite spray lubricant' and none of those guys knew what the heck I was talking about. Is there a brand name spray I can ask for, or is there a specific place I can pick some up at? Thanks again for all of the help!

To lube the cable, am I going to have to take it off?

I don't think you can get at the cable (between the inner and outer cable)to add anything. It is pretty well unaccessable. But you will have to remove it to do anything.New cable should be about $50.00.
DHP

I have never changed one before. How difficult is it to change? You have to mark the new cable so that it will shift/throttle properly?? Just make mark on old cable before taking out and match up to new cable and make mark that way, or is there a better trick to change the cable? Any help is appreciated.

Without seeing what you are spraying, it's impossible to say what will be needed to fix it. If you are spraying the ends of the cables, and it works for a while, then there is possibly corrosion in the end of the cable that the lubricant free's up for a bit, but when unused for a while binds back up. Replace the cable before it gets you into a real problem.
