I have a 1999 Crownline 180BR with the Merc 4.3L Alpha One (Carb w/electric fuel pump). There is a total of 77 hours, so it's not old yet. It would only run for 5-10 seconds and sometimes would not start. At the time I had no tester, but I did not feel or hear the fuel pump prime before starting. I also removed the line going into the carb. and started the engine and no fuel was pumped. I thought it was the fuel pump, but I removed it and tested it and it does come on/off. I am bringing it back to the boat and will check the power to the pump - unless anyone has a suggestion. The drawing I have shows Pur/yel wires to the pump plus ground-blk. The ground is good, I was able to check continuity. The pur/yel wire is also common to the starter motor sol, the Oil pressure switch and the elecrtic choke?(not sure I saw that) I am not sure about the exact process that happens? 1.Electric choke to prime 2.Off starter during start and pressure build 3.Through the pressure switch while running????? At some point I would expect some fuel to pump out. I removed the filter and put a new one on. no water - all fuel, no change.
Thank you in advance for any information.

You have it right, but there may not be an electric choke wire. The power to the electric fuel pump on my '95 4.3L does indeed go through an oil-pressure safety switch, which I assume serves two purposes.
1. If the fuel line broke, and the engine quit, the fuel would also stop, even with the key on.
2. If the oil pump quit, the engine would stop.

The problem with this setup is that you have to crank the hell out of the engine if it hasn't been used in a while, or if you have a carb that leaks down after standing for a while. The fuel pump won't come on until the oil pressure builds up, and then it takes a few seconds to refil the carb fuel bowl.

Rather than change out my pump-carb-check valve, ect, I ran a wire to my fuel pump, which is activated by a dash switch. Now, I can "prime" the engine before starting.
