Hey everyone,
I just got a 1987 regal 18' with a merc 4.3 w/ 2bbl carb. the engine has a cracked head and exhaust manifold. I would like to just put a complete long block in to make sure i dont have to worry about the block. I have a friend with a gm 4.3 TBI engine he would sell me. Can I use this engine and swap the intake manifold, exhaust, and water pump? what else would need to be done? or is there a conversion kit for auto-marine engines. thanks for the advice.

You need to find out what vintage is your friends tbi engine. You should also list your serial number to verify what you have. There are some updates on the 4.3 that could add cost if you don't have the correct vintage engine for the swap.

You would be better off buying a reman 4.3 marine longblock then trying to use some clapped out old truck engine. 'nutcase

I was looking at that option. Trying to keep the cost down because honestly the boat has only maybe another 2 seasons in it. I'm not looking to go fast or anything. I would like it to just run decent. plus I have friends that are mechanics that would do the work.
