I am lookin for possible aftermarket solution for the spark plugs and cables. Maybe something from auto zone or advanced auto parts?

I really dont want to wait until a online order delivery gets here for this, would love to simply go pick it up same day if at all possible, but i am not sure which i need if i were to use an automobile kit...

Anyone know? Is this even possible?

Re: Merc 470 plugs and cables

I went with OEM Mercruiser wires. They looked to be very good quality, and they fit perfectly. In any case I would buy wires made specifically for the 470. OEM is a little expensive, but look at it this way they are probably le$$ than a 1/3 tank of gas and should last for the life of the boat. Just my opinion:rolleyes:.

Try NAPA for 18-8808-2 Sierra wires, might be in stock.

Re: Merc 470 plugs and cables

I ended up ordering the Magstar 402 wire set.
I will be using these simply for testing purposes on all the 470 engines, and order a full time kit once motor is ready for full time use. Thats why i was looking for something local and cheap.

We will probably end up going with magnacor cables, they are very pricey, but they are made for very high performance and can resist much higher heat then the OEM.
They are basically made for racing applications.

It should never get THAT hot on or around a marine engine, and a 470 is not exactly what one would call a hi performance engine.
Your old OEM wires lasted 20+ years.
