Took the kids tubing for a while and my 470 up and quit and wouldn't start again. Also, I noticed the temp guage was a little higher than normal but still in range and that it would barely turnover, almost like the battery was dead. Let it rest for about an hour and then it started right up. I have installed the alternator retrofit if that makes any difference. Is this most likely an electrical issue or am I getting some vapor lock or both?

hard to say without further diag, could be vapor lock, could also be to much Voltage to the ignition coil and or it's just on it's way out.

.....if by chance you stopped suddenly while tubing and allowed your wake to slam the stern with the engine either idling or off: well, you probably hydro-locked the engine.

Time for a compression balance test, check for water in the oil and inspect the flapper (shutter) valve
