Merc 470 stalling issuues

Hi Everyone! Hope someone may be able to help. We had a great time boating on the weekend, boat started, ran good temps., very good day. When the time came to put it back on the trailer, it stalled. Started right up, but as soon as it was put into gear, stalled again. It kept repeating this until i had to get off the launch, and just manually pulled the boat onto the trailer, winched it up and got off of the launch. Seems to run fine, but the stalling issue has me stuck. Any ideas, sugestions, or fixes, are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just a few simple things to check or think about, what condition are the plugs,wires,cap, button, and points in. The plug wires as they age can break down and often get over looked. What rpm does idle at once at operating temp. Should be about 600-800 rpm. Is shift interupt switch and shift cable in good working order / adjusted.
