merc 470 starting issue/ no fire

merc 470
i replaced starter with new one
now boat no start
not geting fire to coil wire
and also should neg side of coil be hot as well as pos side ?
i belive i have solinode hopoked up right
S post going to key switch and r side going to hot side of coil..

I have the same motor and use Manual No. 8. I got it off the "Adults only Section". It's free. If that is the manual pertaining to your engine. (depends on year), page 4E-7 has the diagram you need for the wiring setup.

I'm trying to figure out why mine isn't starting.

did it run BEFORE you did the work?
wiring sounds right.Did you check and adjust the points?
