Merc 485 voltage regulator water hose

The voltage regulator has long since been unused as the engine has an Alternator fitted, but I notice the raw water intake pipe is looking a bit skank so want to replace,Will it be ok to by pass the regulator and go straight to the Heat exchanger?am i going to cook anything? thanks

Yes. It's recommended actually when you do the Alt. conversion. Many say it improves flow, and overall cooling. Just make sure all of the electrical connections to the voltage regulator are properly disconnected and terminated.
