merc 488 idle

someone told me my rpm on my 488 should be half of 1 and 0 so i did that but when i wot to nuetral my motor shacks then shuts off or it just shuts off. also when i am just idleing around the the river for like 5 mins its dies like its getting to much gas so maybe the rpm is to low?? if i am just idleing in nuetral it wont die...

The idle speed should be 650-700rpm, in forward gear with the boat moving without restriction. The initial setting for the idle mixture screws is 2-3 turns out from lightly seated.
