2006, 5.7L Merc with 2 bbl, TKS choke system. I hate it and want to replace it with normal electric choke 2bbl carb. I called Mercruiser Tech Center and they would not tell me what carb I can use. They just tell me replacement is 3310-866143A03. That is my TKS carb.
Has anyone out there replaced their 2bbl TKS? What carb did you replace it with? I am looking at SIE 18-7376N or Mercarb 3310-864943A01.
Anyone had good luck with rebuild on line companies? Read horror stories
Also, the electric choke, just hook up to 12v supply when engine is on? Think I can utilize the TKS 12v connection?

THANKS!!

Mostly a Rochestor 2 barrel will be fine, better off with a line from the ign coil

Agree, I would use the 12V connection coming from the diode, not the one from the Temp switch. In the drawing below you can see that power comes from the oil pressure switch. Remove the diode and find the side that goes hot after the oil pressure switch closes.

Speed for speed, a 4bbl will not burn more fuel. A 1409 is a better carb than any Rochester 2bbl.

Thanks for all the responses. At this time not sure which direction I will go,

the direction depends on what you want or need from the boat

if you simply want to eliminate the TKS..... that is one direction. a simple 2-barrel would do this
if you want a bit more power (in the 20hp range)...... that is another direction. a 4-barrel would do this
if you want a fair amount more power (in the 40hp+ range)...... that is yet another direction. a 4-barrel and a cam change would do this
if you want a good deal of more power (in the 100hp + range)...... that is a whole other direction. this requires either stroking the motor or adding a blower

only you can answer what direction you go in.

I just said I liked it, I never said Mercury used it. They monted the Weber/Carter on a Spreadbore Manifold and used a crappy Adaptor, to make it fit physically, however the airflow through the Primaries was choked by the intake.
Too bad Rochester quit production of the Q-jet, much better Carb than the Weber/Carter or the Holley.

Hmmmmm,,,,,, Of the 20 or more I've run across, I've yet to see any adapters used, other than the throttle cable bracket,......

Merc uses the ole Chevy hi-rise iron manifold,..... spread-bore pattern,.....
The 9600 series AFB carb is a spread-bore carb, with a bolt pattern to fit either manifold pattern,......

Volvo used adapter plates,....... to use Holley carbs,.....

'n I find the AFB much easier to work on, or fine tune,.....
