The AFB carbs do have both bolt patterns, but they are not spread bore carbs by any stretch of the Imagination and the Primaries are larger than those used on the Q-jet or Cater's own Thermoquad and will not fit on Most GM Spreadbore Manifolds

Here is a pic(from Dennis Moores book SB Chevy Marine High Performance) of the Adapter Mercury used to mount the Webers on a spread bore intake.

I have also worked on plenty of Webers on 4 bbl Merc manifolds. Never seen an adaptor on any... And I just looked on the parts lists for any Merc/Weber combinations. No adaptor...

And unlike VP, the 2 bbl manifolds are also proper 2bbl manifolds. Not some dodgy adaptor mix setup...

I read what you posted. But hear this. IT'S WRONG!

Webers only fit on a Squarebore Manifold, with Adapter on Spreadbore Manifolds, or on Manifolds that have mounting pads with open Plenums and both bolt patterns. That applies to both Single and Dual Plane Intakes

The only Carter carb that can fit on a Spreadbore Manifold without an Adapter is the ThermoQuad, but they are very rare in Marine version if they exist at all.

As for VPs Intake, it is a very well designed 4 bbl Manifold, runners look almost identical to the 1970 LT1 intake, but with a carb mounting pad that would allow both spread and square bore carbs, and with a plate with 2 holes, 2 bbl carbs. No need to buy a new intake if one wants to put on a 4bbl.
