Bought this motor used late last summer, 50hp Merc 4 cylinder 500,blue band, serial 7007633. As boating season approaches and it's still quite cool here, what is the ideal cold start procedure (electric start, electric choke). I've noticed that when pushing the choke button the choke closes, but only while holding the button. I would assume that startup should be...move idle lever up, hold choke button down, crank, release choke button, allow to warm up?

Thanks!

Re: Merc 50 cold start question

I have an older 1965 merc and the only way I can cold start is:
Prime fuel line (pump the bulb) until it's tight. Push idle lever up. Simultaneously push choke button and turn key to start position. Engine starts - release choke. Move idle lever down.
