I have an older Merc500 50hp not sure of the year, it is black and says thunderbolt ignition. It also has the name KIEKHAEFER on it. Anyway the motor will start and idle half decent but it seems to go hard into gear and when you apply the throttle it does not rev up and dies when you push it all the way. The control box has 2 levers, the 1 for cold start spark advance and the throttle and also has a choke button on top. We had it apart to remove and paint the boat but this is the first time we had it running. The throttle seems to go from forward to reverse okay but does not open the carb. Oh yeh it is a 4 cylinder if that was unknown. Please help, we would like to try this thing out before winter. thanks..
