merc 500 ignition,journey of discovery.

Here is the continuation of the saga of the 1967 merc 500 I was given as a present.<br />Today I found out that the ignition system on this merc SSLS 500 is that of a merc 650SS (capacitor discharge).In Seloc terms a #3 instead of a #2 ignition system.Although There is 120psi on all 4 cylinders,great spark and clean rebuilt carburators, I cannot get it to start.<br />Is there anything I should know about this change that causes special points of attention.Would it be wise to use this system or is it better to try and find the original ignition system?Where is the mercury switch? <br />Thanks for your opinions and help.
