Hi,
The other day I posted about installing a lower unit and CharlieB saved me. Went out to test it and found some other issues that came along. Idle and impeller. I read through efdog's "Dumb Mistake Dry Running" post, and that's all I needed to know for the impeller. I did the same thing he did while testing today. Pretty sure thats what killed my stream.
IDLE...Idle maintained 2k rpm since starting it. Had to manually move the control bar back to kick it down, but when I released it, back to 2000 rpm it went. I included a couple of pics of my setup for reference, only because I noted something and need input. The first pic is just a fairly clear shot of what's inside. The second has arrows and numbers to make this simple for me to explain. Otherwise, you will have no freakin clue, since its all coming from a noob.
FIRST PIC.....
And then here is the one with arrows and crap to make this easy.......
Ok, item 1, Im guessing, is like an actuator that controls item 2, the arm that controls the flutters on the carbs, items 3 and 4. For whatever reason, Item 1 doesnt seem to be doing anything at all. There appears to be a yellow wire that runs to (??), but thats the only one I could see. If I manually grab the control arm and move it up to close off the carbs, the idle drops (duh) and and its fine. But if I let go, it slowly falls back down and the rpm hits 2k again, maybe stopping at 1700rpm on occasion and hanging up there. Continued waiting for rpm drop for over 20min. Engine was in fact at operating temp and and shut off/restarted a few times with no change.
How do I fix the idle issue? The other 3 screws to the right (not pictured) did not seem to make any difference at all. Any suggestions on fixing this? Oh, one other piece of useful info.... the only reason I learned of this fiasco to begin with is that I was using the Quicksilver carb spray. BassPro says its a great de-carb solution and should clear up the gunk inside, if any. Both flutters on the carbs moved effortlessly, so I am confident that they are not the issue, but maybe an expert here can prove me wrong. Any and all help much appreciated. THANKS!!!
