I just bought a used boat a 2003 monark king 160, the boat has a 2006 60 4 stroke merc on it. My top speed is only 25mph. With just me and my fishing stuff the boat weights about 1400lbs. Does 25mph sound like the right top seed, it seemed a little slow to me. The boat moves at 25mph top speed whether I have one or three people in the boat.

Re: Merc 60 4 Stroke

On the surface it appears you may be running a little slow.

Do you know how your actual WOT rpm compares to your motors rated WOT rpm?

We have similar setups except I have a Crestliner/Johnson. I'm in the low 30's and I'm probably a couple hundred pounds heavier. Surprised you're not running faster with less people...... Have you used a GPS for the speed? Maybe a speedo issue...

It it's any help....I have a similar boat..16.5' G3 Deep V with a 60 HP two stroke.....with 2 fishermen and gear...motor trimmed up, it tops out at 33 mph and 5300 rpm....prop is a 13.5 x 15P ss.....GPS is much more accurate than analog speedo.

We require WOT rpm and accurate GPS speed to determine if your performance is up to par.

Actually, the rpm is more important.

You can use the Mercury prop selector to find the recommended prop for your application. No guess work.
