I have a 1992 Merc 60 that has an erratic problem stalling thats more pronounced under load. The engine has done little hours. The problem happens more often than not but sometimes the engine will die then pick up and run fine. I have stripped the carbs, replaced fuel pump & fuel lines. There is a remote oil mixer...could this be the problem? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Merc 60 dies

I've had the oil mixer apart , cleaned & replaced. Put the boat back in the water & it's still the same. I took the plugs out today & they are covered in black soot which would suggest it's running rich? Does anyone know the correct settings for the mixture? Could fsulty spark plugs cause the problem? Any suggestions welcomed.
Excellent forum.

Check the post under 95 Mariner 60 bogging ...further down the page That'll tell you what I did and what I found out. Not saying it's the same problem but something to check.
Dman

Ok...the motor is dying when the throttle linkage starts to open the carb butterflies after advancingf the timing...could incorrect carb adjustment be the problem? Does any one have the correct settings for this engine??
