Re: Merc 60 hp 4-stroke

I think this eyar or last year is the forst year for mercs own design if I am correctly informed, before that they used Yamaha power heads, and merc lower units.

look inside one, they are well thought out and well built, everything is weatherpak connections ( electrical) and everything mounted to the power head is on rubber isolation mounts.

outboards have finally moved past 1940's technology, now they resemble late 80s early 90s automobile engines.

If you had bought before march 31 they had a 5 year warrenty special, that was what pushed me over the edge to jump in with both feet!

oh yeah, timing belt needs to be replaced every other season I think? that and water pump replacement ( abtou $250 at my local dealer)

ive been worknig on outboards for a while, and IM sick of it, Ill gladly pay the $125 a year to be this quiet, and trouble free.

ozark... if you don't like working on outboards should have looked at e-tec 3 years zero maintence
no annoying timing belt or valves to adjust
quiter? then 4 stroke the biggest thing no crankcase oil or filter to change
the 7 seven year warranty was just a bonus
p.s. if into tree hugging the cleanest outboard in the world

Re: Merc 60 hp 4-stroke

I looked into all of that Marinemech1,

but they are 2 strokes, and they are evinrudes (bad past experiences with evinrude), I wasnt looking for a 2 stroke and for sure not a 2 stroke evinrude.

IM laughing at the sales literature that says they use 30-75% less oil than competitive technologies!

im guessing they didnt figure a 4 stroke as competitive technology.

thanks for your input, but since I was a teenager I swore off Evi-Joohnny rude engines, and I didnt even consider any of these 2 stroke outboards that the companies spent too much time and money trying to design to live another 5 years. They are done, the 4 strokes are a viable solution now.
