I have just got a Mercury blueband 65 outboad engine, but I can not get a spark on any of the plugs. After looking through topics already posted, there seem to be a lot of talk about power packs. I think I understand what this is, is there any way to test these?? Or has anybody got any other ideas.

Generally everything else but the powerpack can be tested, then if everything else is good you know it's the pack. Blueband 65hp could be one of 4 (I think) pretty-different ignitions, a couple 4-cylinders & and couple 3s; how about getting the year or serial number and getting back to us.

This outstanding person has posted wiring diagrams that I think cover all your possibilities:

http://www.maxrules.com/fixoldmercindex.html

Re: Merc 65 blueband no spark

I now have a spark on all plugs!!! But I am not that sure how I have done it!!! I downloaded a wiring diagram from the link you gave me, it was very good. I had a play round with the power pack and cleaned the terminals, and then had a play round with the kill switch and by some chance it now sparks.

I got the engine off a friend of mine who said it was not sparking. I thought he had been running the engine, but I have now found out it had been sat for 3 year in his shed!!

I wish I could tell you how I fixed it but I have not a clue. Thanks anyway for your help.
