Merc 7.5 gear drain screw leaks!

Hi,<br />I have succesfully changed the gear oil as per all the helpful advice here but...<br />The lower dime sized screw seems to leak. Should I replace the neoprene washer?<br />The screw is not flush because it is screwed into a curved surface, so maybe a rubber washer would be better?<br />John

Replacing that washer on the drain screw is standard preventive maintenance. just replace the washer and you should be fine.

I have a feeling someone cross-threaded that screw hole. If so, you'll need to tap it out to a larger size and make a screw to fit.<br /><br />Jeff

It sounds like more than one gasket, don't use the plastic OMC type gaskets get the regular hard paper one, if it's stripped heli-coil the hole, save the greif of trying to make a plug, home made plugs always give trouble
