Hi. My 7.5 hp #5617142, 1980-81.I need a new ign coil for my engine. Seems the oem may be nla. My coil has 3 holes to mount to a bracket. Can't seem to find these original coils. Would there be an aftermarket coil that would do the job?
I do have a 339-5288T 2 coil on the shelf, not sure what it fits. Thank you in advance..

that coil should work. be sure the coil you use has a bare pigtail on the underside.

Yo Willy 16, did you test to make sure you need a new coil? no disrespect no spark whats going on?
There is a huge ignition after market company better than OEM out there, widen your search, search harder, your coil is out there.

thank you for reply. The engine runs fine (2cyls) for about 20 mins.,then it drops a cyl. Once the coil gets warm-no fire.
I swapped # 1&2 coils & the problem moved with the coil. Next problem is i have not found an aftermarket coil w/the
stranded ground wire as with the oem coil. I'm concerned w/trying the odd coil. I do not want to damage the switch box
as it is new & expensive. Any thoughts?? Thanks

this coil is not available aftermarket. The coil you try must have the pigtail or it will burn the switch box. The coil is available from merc for about $90
