So I went to do a tune up on the boat('77 Larson Manta) and pulled the plug wires off(I actually PULLED them off) and found that they screw into the distributor..oops. The plug wires were the original ones so I was going to replace them anyway. I pulled the dist.cap off and found that the rotor has a chunk missing(looks like someone tried to pry it off) and the little button in the middle looks a bit worn to one side, I probably should replace them. This is my first boat and I dont know alot about marine engines. Do they still sell replacement parts for these engines? Does anyone have any part numbers or info about were to purchase these parts? I live in south east BC Canada and the closest boat store is 2 hrs away.

Re: merc 850 info

The plug wires are avail many places, but are close to $10Ea. try vintagemercs.com or oldmercs.com ( I forget which). You want the 36" yellow tiger tails.

Rotors are not removeable, so if you can use the one you have that would be good. Otherwise they are $200+ for the rotor shaft, plus installation. They are avail on the web.

BTW, you will want to figure out the year of that motor by it's serial number. I think it older than 1977..... look on maxrules.com for the model guide

S/N plate should be right under your steering linkage in front on the transom mount, at least my 500 is. Most likely covered with grunge
