ok so the omc guy, works on a merc and cant get the lower back on. am i missing something here? seems i cant line up the shift shaft with the shift coupling. i did the impeller and now i cant seem to get the lower back on.
it came off fine. i left the gear in reverse. lower is in reverse. just the stupid engineer didnt change the impeller i guess.

so any tips? i tried it on its side, back, upside down, on the rack, off the rack. omg i hate mercs....

Re: merc 9.8 1968 shift rod alignment

well i figured this motor out finally. seems the easiest is to plop the motor upside down and then fish the shift linkage, coat hanger, flashlight, water tube to get it all together.
so after a few attempts i finally got water out the pisser! the water tube was bent and prevented a good seal from the water pump.
thought i would share my frustrations and learning curve.
