Merc 9.8 lower unit oil change, vent screw

I wanted to change the lower unit oil on the merc 9.8.
Turns out the drain plug comes out with no problem but the vent screw is broken. Broken meaning the "key" thread is broken.

So is there an alternative way to change lower unit oil without taking off vent screw. Highly unlikely from what I see.

Not sure what you mean by a "key" thread. You can try an impact screw driver that you hit with a hammer or maybe an easy out to remove the vent screw. You have to get it out.
