I had it out and it ran ok.I went to start it and it started right up.For a couple of secomds and stalled and wouldn't start. The plugs were all oil fouled.
Cleaned them and tried to start again.Same thing. I drained the vaporizer and it was full of oil, no gas just oil.The oil was from the oil system.
I drained it and pumped it up and it filled with fuel and started, smoked like crazy,no problem with the smoke it finnaly burned off.

ANY IDEAS??? Thanks,Jerry

Re: Merc 97/225EFI

The check valve on the side of engine that pressurizes the oil tank is defective. It is not bleeding the pressure off after engine shut down forcing oil thru oil pump into VS tank and this can also push the oil pump shaft seal loose and crack the upper caps on reserve tank..I have seen the 3.0 engine like yours the tank swollen that the cowling was hard to remove.
