Is there any variation in the alpha one gasket kits. Referring to the kit that contains the transom gasket and a variety of O rings. I tried to order one through IBOATS and was informed that I needed the serial number from the drive.
I can't see the serial number because it's really faded. I'm thinking it's an 88 (hooked up to a 4.3 carbed Mercruiser)..
thanks for any insight

Are you referring to the one for the lower unit? It's an Alpha one lower unit?

If so, I believe this is what you need...

Ayuh,..... I buy the set linked by BD, by the 1/2 dozen,.....
It's for the Alpha, Gen.II, but fits All of the Alpha series, includin' the ole MC-1s,.....

ok, thanks for the help...just for clarity, the alpha one has a water inlet O ring, the big O ring around the input shaft, and the two O rings on the input shaft?
I've already heard varying opinions on sealants for the O rings/gasket...any input on that?

the big O ring is glued in place , adhesive for the water inlet O ring to make sure it stays in place

I use bellows adhesive to glue them in place. It’s a pain to work with but it dries fast and sticks.

I just put a little grease on the o-rings to hold them in place until it is back together.
