Merc altitude change

My son bought a 83 Merc 150 hp at 1000 ft. altitude and lives at 5300 ft. It seems to be running rich especially at idle. Doesn't have the top speed it had at 1000 ft. either. What should be done to correct. Is it adjustable or does it need to be rejetted.

Hi Lodgepole,<br />No motor will run as good at 5300ft, air is to thin up there although it is a borderline hight. Your area Merc dealer can get you the correct jets. He will probably have to drop a prop size too

Thanks, corm<br />Didn't know if it had adjustable jets or fixed. I haven't opened it up yet. I have 3 oldies in great shape and I live at 9000 ft. Thank goodness they are all double adjustable. They are a 48' Johnson 2.5 hp, a 57' Champion 16 hp, and a 61' Johnson 10 hp.
